I forgot to post about the first show…so trying to get something out there for the next. “Dinner with Friends” opened to a sell out audience who were so engaged in the show that it ramped up the energy of the actors. It was delightful. Particularly enthralling was Director/actor Jane Ayles. She could cause uproarious laughter without a word…simply by the roll of her eyes. It makes me smile just to think of it.

On Friday, July 31 we open “Julian of Norwich”, a monologue/solo performance of the historical woman from the 13th Century. Starring Kristen Woolf, Producer/actor from the Space Theatre in Taos. Trained in opera and well suited to command the stage on her own, this performance is sure to get people talking!

Get tickets in advance at the Angel Fire ArtSpace gallery in the Inn Center (same building as the Post Office) or at the CVB Visitors Center, next door to the theatre in Frontier Square. Plus, rsvp for dinner at Avalons and save 20% if you have theatre tickets. Tickets are only $12.00

“Julian of Norwich” will play only twice, Friday, July 31 and Saturday August 1.

I know it’s been a long time, but sometimes it just takes time to put these things together. While a theatre schedule is still a big question mark, the Children’s Theatre Workshops will take place July 13-17 with a perfomance at 2pm on the 18th. This year we’ll move the workshops to the Angel Fire Community Center where there will be lots of room to spread out.

Theatre officianado, Beth Tafoya, will once again head up the program and we are looking forward to see what sort of ingenious program she comes up with this year!

So, if you’re planning to come to Angel Fire this summer, get the kids ready to participate. They’ll have a blast and learn a lot about stagecraft and the important lessons of teamwork and building confidence. Ages 6-16 and it’s still just $10 per child for the week.

As soon as I can nail down the theatre (hopeful!) schedule, I’ll post it, so check back soon.

Welcome fans! Let me start by bringing you up to date. Last Season was one of trauma and joy! The sudden crashing of our partnership with Texas Tech was in fact the new beginning of a different level of theatre! While it brought many challenges, not the least of which was making a new season in three short months, in the end, the result was high quality theatre, new partnerships and a whole new way of thinking.

In the process, we took a hard look at the economics of bringing live theatre to this remote and isolated valley. In this community of about 2,000 we had multiple non-profits competing for limited resources, both financial and in terms of volunteers and time. Unanimous votes of two boards, brought the end of Angel Fire Mountain Theatre as independent organizition, and the re-creation of a fully operational performance arm of the Moreno Valley Arts Council. The MVAC is the longest running arts organization in the valley.

And so, as of now, Mountain Theatre is a program of the Arts Council. This will simplify and consolidate, both our fund raising efforts and the organizational and management needs of the multiple arts programs.

Now to what you’re really looking for: What’s coming in Season XIII, 2009? Well, we’re working on that! You can trust that we will once again bring live theatre to our community and it’s visitors. And, our Children’s Theatre Workshops will run again….like 2008…local and original. Subscribe (RSS) to this blog and you’ll know first what’s coming up!

Here’s to Season XIII! Hurrah!
